“Can we reconcile who we are now with the memories and choices of who we once were?”
A few years ago, I stumbled across an email from a real estate site I signed up for years earlier. It mentioned my old house from nearly a decade back. Curious, I clicked the link, and there it was—my former home, just like I remember, yet feeling so distant. That moment left me wondering: Am I even the same person I was back then?
<Wish You Were Here> grew from that feeling. It’s a game where two players embody the “current self” and “past self” of the same character, exploring different moments side by side.
Inspired by the mechanics of choice games, Wish You Were Here plays with life’s unpredictability. Unlike some games with a single right answer, it mirrors how our choices don’t always lead where we expect. Obstacles in the game challenge players to adapt, shifting from passive observers to active participants in their own stories, making them evolve over time.

Mechanics and Development
In Wish You Were Here, two players embody different versions of the same person: a “Current Self” navigating the present on a 2D computer screen and a “Past Self” reliving memories through a 3D projection. Sitting side by side yet experiencing separate timelines, each choice they make resonates across both experiences, blending past and present.
Through real-time data exchange facilitated by the extOSC protocol, each action creates a ripple effect on the other’s journey. Choices by the “Current Self” unlock or shape the “Past Self’s” encounters, while the “Past Self” influences the present experience.
