"시야(Siya)" is a play on words, blending the idea of “field of vision” with the poetic phrase meaning “this is a poem.” This project, Siya, is a virtual reality experience that invites participants into the world of Yoon Dong-ju’s final poem, recreating the intimate space of his “육첩방,” a six-tatami mat room in Japan. It was in this small, confining room that Yoon Dong-ju composed his last verses. With Siya, I aim not just to depict the sorrow of a poet separated from his homeland, but to evoke his resilience, deep reflection, and the quiet hope he maintained even in the face of profound loss.

The aim is not to dwell on defeat but to offer a way for participants to connect with Yoon Dong-ju’s spirit of repentance and quiet strength. By recreating this intimate space, I hope to create a moment where the audience can feel the weight of his self-reflection and, at the same time, the glimmer of hope for a new dawn that he held onto. It’s about experiencing his journey, not as a narrative of despair, but as a reflection of his enduring belief in the possibility of a brighter future, even in the darkest of times. Through Siya, I want to share a piece of his soul—a reminder of the power of hope and the human spirit’s capacity to look forward to the light after enduring the longest night.
